The Trabzon Faruk Başaran Science and Art Center is an independent support education institution opened with the aim of enabling specially talented students to become aware of their individual abilities and develop them to their fullest potential. The center operates on a project-based model.
Students from grades 1 to 4 of primary school who are considered to be specially talented in general mental abilities, visual arts, and music are nominated by their classroom teachers for the talent identification process. These procedures are carried out in accordance with the diagnostic calendar published by the Ministry.
Students nominated by their schools are evaluated according to the established calendar and using specific measurement tools. They undergo preliminary assessments and individual evaluations. Students who are successful in these diagnostic stages are enrolled in our center. Once registered, students continue their education at our center until their final year of high school.
Unlike regular educational institutions under the Ministry of National Education, our center does not have grade levels; instead, it offers specialized programs. These are:
At our center, 588 students are receiving talent training: 488 in General Mental Ability, 69 in Visual Arts, and 31 in Music.
Since 2019, our center has been working in cooperation with KTÜ and Trabzon Universities under the auspices of the Trabzon Governorship. The laboratories of both universities are available for use when needed, and academic support is provided. In the 2021-2022 academic year, 45 academics are offering support to our activities, projects, and providing consultancy services. In addition, the Fisheries Institute laboratories and experts assist our biology students. Collaborations are also ongoing with the Rize RTE University in the field of Fisheries.
In collaboration with TÜBİTAK, scientists hold conferences, talks, and workshops at our center. Studies in Nuclear Physics are also being carried out in cooperation with METU (Middle East Technical University).
We are also working with Istanbul Baykar Machinery.
Plans are ongoing with Trabzon TEKNOKENT, KTÜ Farabi Hospital, Faculty of Pharmacy, Foreign Languages, Computer Science Department, and Faculty of Fine Arts.
Individuals who have made a difference in their fields (industrialists, manufacturers, historians, writers, visual artists, photographers, vocal artists, designers, etc.) are invited to our center, where they conduct workshops and talks with students from related fields.
